Prabhakar Kolte
Prabhakar Kolte's early paintings were strongly influenced by Paul Klee. He studied at the J.J. School of Art in the late 1960s, where many of his classmates were also affected by Klee. His early canvases feature a single dominant background colour with lighter geometric and organic forms.
In the early 1980s he experimented with installation and performance art, and later returned to painting, covering identifiable images so that his forms work as pure colour in space. His recent work is glossier and more finished, with less of Klee's weathered texture.
He taught at the J.J. School of Art for twenty-two years, retired in 1994, and now paints full time.
